I grew up where sunsets glowed over trees and behind the clouds, where the stars were as bright as street lamps, on a highway, the only major road in my town. A blip in space if you lived anywhere outside of it. Eleven hundred to my town, Sixteen-thousand to my county. We were surrounded by trees, rivers, the same old places, and familiar faces. The kids who go to school here rep it as a way of life. Marc, Nick, Nate, and Zack: one of these is my brother, but the other three might as well be, there are a lot more who might as well be too. Our squad ran deep, and so did our bond. My family was my world. My mom and dad are two of my best friends. We rode the dirt roads, went to the beach at night, and did shit that we shouldn’t have done, but times were simple, time were good. I’m older now, times aren’t as simple, but they are still good, maybe better. No matter how good it gets I’ll never forget. I’ll never forget the excitement as the first year’s lights of the Friday field rained down. I’ll never forget walking for miles on an empty beach in the dead of night. I’ll never forget the parties we threw, those who came through, and all the other stuff we would do. Brantley County, I’ll never forget.
